Lost and not found
July 5, 2007Losing something valuable can really make me sad and worried. Who wouldn’t anyway?
Last year, I had a bad experience with almost losing a digital camera and my passport. Now these are really valuable items, right? If you read about my digicam experience here, you’ll know how I recovered it after much unnecessary worrying. What about my passport? I was dumbfounded to realize few days after arriving in Thailand that my passport was missing. I checked my things for the nth time and was so worried not to find it. I contacted our co-passengers, who became our friends, if my passport was accidentally left with them but I got a negative response. A lot of pessimistic thoughts ran through my mind and I was about to give up. My Mom, the ever optimistic one, told me we will find it soon and she suggested calling Suvarnabhumi (pronounced as suwanapoom) International Airport. After surfing for their numbers in the net, and finally able to talk with somebody in English, I was advised to call the ‘Lost and Found’ department. I was in tears when the guy told me my passport was with them, somebody found it and gave it to their custody.
Now, with my recent Bangkok-Manila trip, I lost again something in the airport! Yikes. A bag of excesses it was. Well, my baggage registered more than 20 kilograms and I had to leave some not so important items behind – my bathrobe, shorts, shampoo and other toiletries. I stuffed them inside a bag but unfortunately I forgot to hand it over to my bro’s custody and placed it in one of the chairs. We spent my little time left taking photos since my sis-in-law, my nephews and niece sent me off. We chatted a bit and I totally forgot about it until I was lining up at the Immigration. I called up my bro, who was already at the parking lot, if it was with him and was saddened to learn they didn’t bring it with them. Anyway, my sis-in-law and nephew went back to check it out on the chairs where we stayed but didn’t find it. Even the ‘Lost and Found’ department gave them a negative response. Sigh. I still feel bad just thinking about it. My cutie sis just cheered me up though, saying it’s OK to lose those things, they were not that important. I just consoled myself with the thought that the person who took it might have needed those items more than I do.
