Creating your own business cards online

July 17, 2007

business cards

We used to own an internet café and part of the services we offered was accepting orders for desktop publishing jobs. Most of our clients would like us to design business cards for them. Well, they would specify their own preferences like what color and fonts to use, what images to include, and they would go to so many details you’d wish they’d just make their own cards themselves. And since most of them don’t know any of the details of using desktop publishing software, I doubt that very much.

Well, people who would like to go into the details of their own business cards, like the customers we had, can always leave out the technical aspects of making their own cards by going to Great FX business cards, where they can browse through a lot of business card templates, and freely choose which details to include in their design.

Their site’s homepage easily takes you to the design process where you are given two choices to start — the design online option and the upload custom option. The design online option lets you create your own card online. Just click the design online button which will then take you to a page of varied themes (art, beauty, interior design, healthcare, etc.) to choose from, select a front background for your card (you also have the option to add text at the back),  and fill up the information to be displayed on your card. While this process is pretty simple, it is a bit confusing since you have to go through some graphics (front and back of the card) and text before filling up the details at the bottom. I think it would have been easier to use the right side space for the online form to avoid scrolling down. The upload custom option, on the other hand, lets you upload your own files for printing. This is good for those who want to use their own company logos or photos.

In general, the site has easy to navigate and straightforward design.  I like that they have great resources for their customers and site visitors – informative articles on business card design and marketing, color theory, and design tutorials on graphic design software such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
