A walking encyclopedia

June 19, 2008

Last Tuesday we had a tour of Prague’s religious sites, the Loreta Praha or the Loreto Pilgrimage site and the Strahovsky Monastery. We had a walking encyclopedia for a tour guide! OK, he was such a knowledgeable guide especially on topics such as art, architecture, religion and history. He explained to us in detail the background of each building, room or artifact. He really knows his job well as a tour guide. I bet even real estate agents and car insurance salesmen can learn from the way he is very much dedicated to his career.

Stylish medical jewelry

June 18, 2008

For the ladies, putting on some accessories really makes a big difference with your overall look especially when it matches with your dress or shoes. Thus, with my recent trip, I brought some handcrafted necklaces and bracelets for my cutie sis as requested.

While these accessories do make a fashion statement, there are also stylish medical jewelry which are not only attractive add-ons to your attire but provide medical information about the wearer. These accessories are usually made of 10k or 14k gold or sterling silver and are engraved with your medical condition which would surely be a big help in emergency situations.

Sunday fun in Prague

June 16, 2008

After arriving here in Prague Saturday evening, the next day was spent attending Holy Mass at the famous church of the Infant Jesus. We were glad to have attended the Philippine Independence day celebration afterwards at the church yards. It was kicked off with a simple ceremony where the Philippine National Anthem was sung and the Czech National Anthem as well.

After the Philippine Ambassador to Czech Republic gave a short and inspiring talk, lunch was served which included some native delicacies such as bihon guisado, palitao, maja blanca and leche flan. It was a yummy way of curing homesickness for those who have been away from the Philippines for years already.

Some games were played after lunch such as the famous pabitin and pot-hitting. Mom won a beautiful Bohemian glass bowl for showing a hundred peso bill as part of the ‘Bring me’ game and answering the emcee’s question. I was just so tired from my trip the previous day so I had fun observing and taking photos from the sides.

Baby shower invitations

June 9, 2008

When baby Caite was not yet born, friends of my cutie sis were all enthusiastic and happy over a newborn babe of one in the group, so that long before the due date, they were already planning for a shower party for the baby. So my sis happily obliged herself to furnish the invitation for it. Being a techie mom, she surfed the internet for baby shower invitations, but on a second thought why not make her own to put into reality her many cute and frilly designs for it? Her baby being a girl, she was full of many pink ideas for it. I don’t know if it materialized though.

Impatient me

June 8, 2008

Wow! So I’m now preparing for my Manila trip two days from now, be staying there for the few days before my flight on the 14th. How time flies, it seems just yesterday when Dad and Mom with cutie sis and baby Caite were still here and bade me bye for their trip to Europe, leaving me behind to join them after a month. And now this nearly one month of waiting is about to be finished. Thank God He has given me a dear friend Mai for a companion here at home, imported from Cebu! How good is the Lord! But if only I have a fairy wand, I’ll engage a private jet charter to be with them right now! Am I so impatient?

For music enthusiasts

June 6, 2008

Music lovers on the go can rely on their iPods to drive away the boredom while waiting for the bus or during a long trip. Oh well, some just can’t leave home without their iPods in their bags.

Anyway, for those who are into unlimited music listening, there are lots of iPods to choose from – the iPod Touch, iPod shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Classic… and recently the stylish and hi-tech iPhone. Just browsing on the Internet about these cute gadgets just makes me want to have one as well.

It’s also fun reading some info about iPods at ShopWiki, where they provide more details about each model. They also feature some related products and accessories from Apple, as well as video reviews.

Vision care

June 2, 2008

Most of us in the family have defective vision, so the parents are wearing eyeglasses, while the younger generation, contact lenses. I know some families with most members who are nearsighted too. It runs in the genes as they say. While some don’t really mind wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses, there are the maintenance costs on vision care that sometimes make a big dent on the budget. For instance, my mom recently bought transition eyeglasses (they change color from light to dark when exposed to the sun) that cost much.

For those with limited budget, they can opt for vision discount programs such as those offered by Ameriplan. This is another alternative to medical and health insurance. AmeriPlan Vision gives 20% - 60% discount on vision care including lenses, tints, coatings, frames or whatever one needs along this line. This should be of interest to those who opt for affordable eyecare with their network participated by large chains of vision providers.

Customizing one’s artwork

June 1, 2008

Another thing of value which can help in the total look of a home is a picture frame. Picture frames enhance the beauty of whatever piece we would want framed, be it a treasured photo of a loved one, a valuable artwork, any souvenir item or even a love letter! The technique of custom picture framing is one of the ways used by interior designers, or even full-time housewives with a penchant for beauty, in decorating walls.

Anyway, my eye for the aesthetics was caught when one time, as I browsed through the net, I came across a website which offers a unique framing technology to customize the presentation of one’s artwork. There is a complete flexibility of both material and style. It’s nice to be creative and express one’s self without any limits.
