Finding ways to save money

Managing the family’s finances can be tough. There are times when you have to say no to unplanned purchases and stick to your budget which can be really challenging. Other times, I had to resort to juggling of funds to keep up with the bills.

I also try to find ways to save and here are some that I can really count on:

• Avail of senior citizen discount when dining out with Dad and Mom. Most restaurants and fast food chains offer discount up to 20% to their senior citizen clients and this means a lot of savings for us.

• Keeping track of funds with regular accounting. I use an accounting software that really helps me analyze and manage the family funds.

• Shop wholesale or in larger quantities. Those smaller sized items may cost less but buying in bulk usually gives more savings. I usually carry with me a calculator and do some computations during shopping, the cost per unit (e.g. peso per milliliter) is usually lesser when an item’s quantity is bigger.
