My new credit card: Petron-BPI MasterCard

July 14, 2009

I think it was a month before when I received a call from a BPI credit express agent that I will be receiving a Petron-BPI MasterCard in the mail. It came as a surprise since I didn’t apply for it. She assured me that the membership is free for the first year, then it depends on me if I will continue to use it (and pay the annual fee for the following year) or not. This credit card is dubbed as a “full service motorist card” with features such as free towing and roadside assistance aside from fuel rebates and other perks. So far we’ve used it already for two visits to the designated gasoline station in Mandalagan. I am not sure if the other Petron gasoline stations participate in their rebates feature.

Student driver

July 13, 2009

During their recent vacation here in the Philippines, big sis also spent time being a student driver aside from visiting the malls or going to the beaches. Yup, one of her major things-to-do within their month-long vacation was learning how to drive and she did complete the course. According to her, she was able to drive in several road and weather conditions and learned how to park properly.

Will you marry me?

July 11, 2009

Ugh…the million dollar question. Asking a girl to marry you can be such a challenge, and for some guys it needs a lot of planning and preparation, not just with selecting from a lot of engagement rings or choosing which restaurant. Some would go to great lengths for such a special moment. The usual romantic dinner with candlelight is oftentimes made more unique with things that are special to the couple.

My new phone: Sony Ericsson c510

July 10, 2009

It may be a bit bulky than most phones but I love my new phone, a Sony Ericsson c510, especially when it’s given as a gift! Thanks to my mom, I finally have a camphone and it comes with a music player as well. I’m still playing with some of its features. I still use my old phone, a Nokia 2610, which has another network SIM card inserted in it. It still is working, though it hangs up and turns off when receiving a lot of messages.

Treadmills for dogs?

Despite the recession, pet products are selling as reported by Joan Lowell Smith for the Star-Ledger. Yup, pet owners are willing to spend on their furry friends and cut back on other expenses. Having a lovable pet for a companion can be a great stress-reliever, and they’re always ready to “listen” to their masters’ rants and stories after a long day at work.

What do you think of manufactured or mobile homes?

July 9, 2009

For those who are used to settling in their own house and lot, having a mobile or manufactured home can be a different experience.

Personally, the thought makes me curious. I think it would be cool to have a home that you can take with you to another place. The setup really depends on what your lifestyle, family interests and needs are. For some, owning a mobile home means more freedom and a simpler way of living, although it may seem complicated for others.

Just thinking about some interior design ideas for a condo unit

July 4, 2009

Happy Fourth of July! It’s a weekend and I decided to just stay at home to finish some pending tasks. With an upcoming interior design project for a condo, I really haven’t got extra time and I’m lagging behind my online class assignments. Next week, we’re going to drop by some malls and check out their home and living section for beddings and curtains. We might buy some of the condo materials here or maybe in Manila.

Fourth of July entertaining and decorating ideas

July 3, 2009

Aside from the food, games and music, the Fourth of July celebration also means sprucing up the house. And whether it’s your home decor lighting you’re concerned about or the centerpiece for the outdoor party, it doesn’t need to be all about American flag accessories all over your house.

As the Porch in St. Louis owner Cathy Weldon suggested, Fourth of July decors can go farther beyond the day of celebration and can even be used throughout the year. Regarding the decors, she said, “People are going toward stuff that’s not so gimmicky. You can use it in different areas of the home throughout the year. In this economy, things have to do double-duty. Solid colors work really well for that.”

Battlefield 1943

July 2, 2009

Nope, the title above is not an upcoming movie but an upcoming multiplayer game that will be released on July 8 and 9 on XBox Live and the PlayStation Network respectively, as announced by Electronic Arts. It will also be released on PCs in September. The game will host up to 24 players per match and players get to choose which side they’re on - the U.S. Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Sounds like another exciting video war game, yeah?

What’s your weight loss strategy?

I was just looking over some pics of our recent overnight stay at a faraway beach resort and am glad I’m not that fat as I used to be early this year. Thanks to a controlled-carb diet which made me give up rice. Yes, I’ve been rice-free since January! I hope I can get back into my regular exercise routine though, so I can lose more unwanted belly fat.

Stress can cause acne break outs

July 1, 2009

Yup, that’s what we hear from the medical experts and I readily agree with them. Why so? When one is stressed, the essential minerals such as zinc, magnesium and selenium that help control acne are depleted. Anxiety and worrying are not only bad for the soul but to the body as well. For instance, one tends to overeat or have poor eating habits when stressed, which results to unhealthy body and skin due to lack of proper nutrients.

Social security benefits for disabled workers

Life can be tricky and surprising, and sometimes it seizes you with challenges and loads of twists and turns. Thus it helps to be wiser and sensible when it comes to our personal priorities and especially with finances. For the employed, it’s important to have adequate insurance benefits especially with high-risk jobs. Workers who contribute to Social Security need to be aware and learn more about their rights and benefits particularly when they become disabled or suffer poor health conditions that prohibit them from working.
