Using Windows 7 Starter Edition

February 6, 2010

Despite being met with positive reviews from critics, I’ve been hesitant about using Windows 7. My recent operating system has been Windows Vista on my laptop which died on me. I didn’t like Vista at all, it would take ages to boot and came with a lot of desktop accessories that eats up a lot of RAM.

Now that I have a new netbook which comes with Windows 7 Starter Edition, that leaves me no choice but to try this new OS from Microsoft. So far it has been doing fine. This is a streamlined version of Windows 7 and is very much appropriate for basic computing needs that most netbooks are made of. Surfing speed is okay, you can open multiple tabs in your browser and speed is not compromised, whether you’re reading the online news, doing a search on the best breeches or checking your email and visiting other websites.

Some reviews said you can only open about three programs with Windows 7, but in my case I usually work with more than five programs simultaneously, e.g. chat with Yahoo! Messenger, open word processing, spreadsheet and other applications as well. For those whose needs go beyond basic computing, it’s recommended to upgrade to higher Windows 7 editions.
