While the main purpose of eyeglasses is to help us see clearly, there are other types of glasses that protect our eyes, such as sun glasses to shield our eyes from the harmful rays of the sun, goggles for protecting our eyes from the water when swimming, or safety glasses for those working in industrial plants and construction sites.
As somebody who’s nearsighted, I have my own pair of glasses since grade school. Even if I feel uncomfortable wearing them, I consider them as safety glasses too as they protect me from the dust and blurry vision.
Here’s a photo showing my previous pair of eyeglasses, it has a light pink frame with multicoated lens. I used it for many years before finally going to the optical shop last year and getting a new pair with new grade.
I have been on a kind of a diet that does not send me on to hunger land. Personally, I just can’t stand depriving myself of meals as my tummy would usually grumble, so going on a food strike is just not my style of going on a diet. Yup, I can’t go hungry, I have to eat!
So what’s my kind of diet? It’s a “semi” low-carb diet, and for me, this is one of the diets that work. Why just “semi”? Well, because I don’t really follow the low-carb diet rules strictly. I still include bread in my meals and sometimes sneak in some rice. Sometimes I would even treat myself to some donuts, pastries, ice cream and other sweets. But there are really times when my meals would just be purely meat, chicken, fish and veggies.
Depending on the body make of a person, or his/her metabolism, a certain kind of diet works best for him/her. So, how about you, what’s your kind of diet?
I know kids can be glued to the computers when they play games or browse the Internet, but I can’t imagine how this could lead to addiction. I’ve just read an article about a rehabilitation clinic in the UK, the Capio Nightingale Hospital, which treats children especially the teens who are overly dependent on computer games and mobile phones. The hospital doctors and medical experts want to help kids cope with dependence on modern technology, teaching them to limit their time spent on the virtual world and to help them improve their relationship with others in the real world.
So how does computer addiction starts? According to the experts, when kids lack the confidence in themselves, they turn to computers, to the virtual world as an escape. Personally, I am not happy seeing kids spending so much time in front of the TV or the computer. I’d rather see them playing real games outside or doing creative work at home. As a business mentor once said, watching TV (that goes for playing computer games too) makes one’s mind stagnant and defocused. He said the TV and computer games can be a big de-motivator, taking one’s focus away from the things that matter most. Uh oh… warning to those addicted with Facebook games.
The cosmetics industry is a big money-maker. So many people, mostly the women, would like to hold the aging process. They go to all extent just to make themselves beautiful, so they say. For this reason, face creams of any kind, size, color and even odor are now coming out into the market.
The truth is, real beauty comes from the inside, which radiates to the outside gaiety of a person, making her/him exude a radiance which cannot go unnoticed. After all, when a person is good and righteous, he/she has peace, joy, contentment, which shows. He/she just naturally loves everyone; the effect of this is an attractive and pleasing personality.
Young girls usually have acne or any other facial skin problems. No wonder they resort to whatever suggestion they get, most especially when these medications are just newly introduced and offer special discounts! Anything provided they offer and promise relief, and are very affordable! No wonder most fall into the trap of unscrupulous money lovers who just do any business, regardless of the harm it would do to the users… pity them. Warning therefore to the young: beware of just any acne scar removal cream. It may just be a disaster which later one would regret.
The first child of our cute youngest sister is Caity, the ever-active smart, cutie girl of two-and-a -half years. No wonder that the prayer of the parents would be a boy for their next baby. How happy they could be that they got an answered prayer! It’s now more than a month that my sister delivered her cute second child, a robust and healthy baby boy, thank God. However, she hasn’t been back to her girlie cute figure, she must need quick weight loss diets I guess. And this is perennial challenge to almost all mothers: to be back to their previous slimmer figures!
I just sent an SMS to one of my high school classmates. She used to be part of our “barkada” or gang, and we’re planning to meet any day this week. Hmmm… I wonder what our conversation topics would be? I can still remember some of the crazy things we do that time, and even how she would swoon over her high school crushes or cheat during exams. Now, she’s very much a changed person, for the better of course! Thank God for that! People do change, isn’t it? I can’t say it’s the same positive change with my other high school classmates though.
Anyway, when my friend and I meet over coffee, I bet we would be talking more about career, and how life can be so stressful sometimes. I’m sure our conversation would also be about how we need to have a break and spend some nice day at a spa, indulge in one of those Orlando vacation packages or go on an adventure climb in the mountains.
Once a year, most people get out of their usual place to take a vacation. A trip away from work results in continued high spirits and enthusiasm, thus leading to more productivity. Employers, knowing the benefits a break can contribute to the well-being of an individual, make it easier for their employees to take this much-needed relief away from the usual environment, most of them offering paid company vacations.
Many nowadays, as it is fast and convenient, resort to online purchase of plane tickets and choose from tourist spots accessible online. Outer Banks vacation rentals would also be nice to consider, among the many choices one can get.
When we were in Europe, it was supposed to be summer, but the air was still so cold, most especially when the wind would blow, it would be soooo chilly! Yet we noticed that the attires of people walking around were varied. Some would don the summer look, what with an oh-so-short skirt complete with spaghetti straps, some with even a backless upper. Still, others wear jackets – could they be Nascar jackets? – and are more wrapped up it depends really on one’s body-make maybe.
I’m a careful person when it comes to wearing jewellery. I am not comfortable showing them off especially when I’m out on the streets. I only wear my gold earrings once inside the venue or inside the car. For instance, during Sunday Mass, I wear my earrings inside the church and take them off when dropping by the market to buy some fresh fruits and veggies.
It’s best not to attract people, particularly the bad guys, with jewelry while out on the streets. Flashy earrings, necklaces and other accessories are tempting to snatchers so make sure to take them off especially in crowded places. Thus, reserve those diamonds and other precious accessories for special occasions and wear them only in safe places. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
I really had a great time yesterday. I met my schoolmates from graduate school and we dined at a Thai restaurant. Our conversation topics ranged from food to politics and especially the environment and waste management. We also had yogurt for dessert at another food establishment while talking about selling used items and setting up a garage sale as one of my friends was thinking about giving away some old glassware which were just gathering dust in their house. We also talked about setting up an educational program for kids, such as having a library equipped with textbooks and other educational materials. It was a spontaneous brainstorming that late afternoon and we plan to meet again this weekend.
I salute to the Filipino children who are so concerned of their families. Should I say it is the culture. Like my friend, she is now on vacation after five long years of stay in Europe. Her holiday is timed with the birthday of her mom who just turned 70 last week, and you know what, a whole cow would be slaughtered for this celebration!!! As early as this, it could also be considered one of her mothers day gifts!
